ALWAYS contact your BON to verify current licensure requirements
& endorsement policy before enrolling!!!!!!
Canada - Only LPN's qualify for the Excelsior College program if they reside in Canada.
Alabama - Alabama State Board evaluates Excelsior graduates on a case by case basis. Direct Licensure: EC grads who have LPN-level psychiatric & obstetrical clinical rotations are authorized to take the NCLEX-RN.
Endorsement: Since 2000, any graduate with a significant number of hours of RN experience may apply for, and may be accepted for, endorsement by the Alabama Board - Contact the state board for details.
Arizona - Excelsior students will have to complete 120 hour precepted experience set up by Excelsior College, after finishing the ASN degree requirements. Then they may apply for the NCLEX-RN. Students may endorse into the state with 960 RN hours.
California - All graduates enrolled on or before December 5, 2003 may apply for RN licensure - EC website.
Endorsement: All graduates who enrolled on or after December 6, 2003 may apply for endorsement of their RN license and will be considered by the California Board of Nursing on a case-by-case basis. Feb/2006 CABON website: "Excelsior College graduates, like other out-of-state school graduates, must fulfill all California licensing requirements, including supervised clinical practice, in order to qualify for licensure as a registered nurse in California.
Colorado - Students who were LPNs upon enrollment and who enrolled after January 1, 2006, are eligible to apply to the Colorado Board of Nursing (CO BON) for a special permit to complete a 350-hour preceptorship administered by the Colorado BON. All non-LPNs enrolled after January 1, 2006 are eligible to apply to the Board for a special permit to complete a 750-hour preceptorship to be administered by the CO Board. After successful completion of the preceptorship, students are authorized by the Board to apply for NCLEX-RN. Endorsement: All enrolled after January 1, 2006, must endorse in with 2000 hours of RN experience (or complete the preceptorship).
Florida - Florida State Board accepts all LPNs. Non-LPNs doing the RN program through Excelsior College can still endorse into Florida, however the State Board will now require 2 years of RN experience outside the state of Florida.
Georgia - Check the GA BON site for updates - they now accept EC grads with preceptorship hours. As of April 2009 the BON now allows direct licensure of Excelsior College graduates if they were an LPN, Paramedic or Military Corpsman at the time of enrollment. They also require additional clinical learning experiences prior to licensure depending on pre-licensure training and experience. Check the GA BON website at http://sos.georgia.gov/plb/rn/.
Illinois - All graduates must endorse in with 2 years of RN experience.
Kansas - All enrolled after February 17, 2005 must endorse in with 1,000 hours of RN experience.
.
Kentucky - This board was requiring that all graduates of all nursing schools do a 120 hour preceptorship upon completion of the nursing program. Check the KY BON for current details.
Louisiana - LPNs or graduates with 50% traditional school clinical hours who complete the Excelsior College nursing program may apply for the RN examination. All non-LPN grads must endorse with 6 months RN experience.
Maryland - Direct Licensure/Endorsement: Excelsior students who graduated on or before December 31, 2007 are eligible to apply for licensure. Otherwise, licensure is not available. Contact the MD BON for more details.
